“Of course,” Jiung shifts in his seat, twisting the ring on his finger. “That’s fine.”
“You’re so awkward,” Intak laughs after a pause, sipping from his beer. “Like I asked you out or something.”

Summary
The other four are too distracted by figuring out if this is the abandoned house they're supposed to be breaking and entering into to notice Taeyang and Keeho's usual banter, which would usually earn a laugh or two. Keeho laughs instead and lets their conversation stop there. Their conversations have always been easy, casual, pliant like chewed gum— they stick just as stubbornly, too, to Keeho at least.

Summary
"You good, hyung?" he asks, and Jiung nods silently in response. He shrugs off his nerves, deciding to grit his teeth and not let his fear slip through. He was the paranormal fanatic after all. He technically should be enjoying this right now, but why can't he shake the feeling that they really shouldn't step into that house?
"You look pale," Intak points out. "If you're scared, I can just hop in and take a look on my own."
"I'm not scared," Jiung says— snaps, more like, as he hears the crack of his voice like a whip in midair. He can sense Intak retreating slightly like a wounded dog and wishes he could take back the acid in his tone like scrubbing a window clean, but it's clear from Intak's silence that he's already hurt.
A "Sorry" is on the tip of his tongue, but he swallows it dry, and it burns like a too-big painkiller going down.
Instead, he sets his sights on the house and trudges in unceremoniously, wondering if the burning in his gut is from fear, guilt, or both.

It’s nearing one in the morning when Jiung finally decides to turn his light off and leave the workshop. When he opens the back door, he finds Intak leaning back against the wall across the narrow alley, a boyish smile on his lips.
“Hey hyung,” he greets, hands in the pockets of his worn out cargo pants.
“You were here ten days ago,” Jiung notes. “What the hell is it this time?”
“Am I not allowed to simply miss you?”
or, Jiung is Intak's mechanic. And friend. He thinks.

Jiung graduated from his teaching degree, got a job at a decent school, found an apartment and a roommate. He bought vegetables semi-regularly and mostly managed to eat them before they went soft and weird. He went out with his colleagues at least once a month and even went on a couple of the blind dates they set up for him. He managed to make it so he never wore the same shirt twice in a row, and hoarded his favourite board pens in the locked draw in his classroom. He learnt the kids’ names and started to recognise which parents to watch out for. He bought a house plant and named it Colonel Sanders.
He is kind of fucking miserable.
