    Summary

Behind them, tires ease into the gravel on the edge of the road. Steve doesn’t bother looking. A car door slams, and then Munson says, “I don’t need you to stand up for me, Harrington.”

Steve still doesn’t look at him. He swears he sees shadows moving in the thick brush, and he shivers a little. He says, “What, with Byers? He’s just scared for his brother.”

    “Yeah, I know that, dickweed.”

“Wow,” Robin says, voice low. “You were into that?”

Steve tilts his head, finally looks past where Robin is standing to see Munson, hair pulled back in a messy bun, denim vest shrugged on over the leather, ripped jeans baggy in all the wrong places, face flushed and scowling. “Unfortunately,” he says.

The package is a little different, but Steve knows deep down he’s the same protective, loyal, judgmental asshole he’s always been. It’s just, once upon a time, Steve was on the beneficial side of his personality disorder.

    Summary

Once upon a time, the king and queen of a faraway kingdom struck a bargain with a witch in order to gain the child and heir they coveted. But the bargain came with a price: their child would never truly be loved by another, unless they could be seen and accepted as they are. Prince Stephen, though gifted in ways other than book-smarts, was not the child his parents wanted. Unable to see past their own expectations for him, the prince grew up unloved. The kingdom considers him only an idiotic pleasure-seeker, one who cannot hold a candle to his brilliant parents. In order to find a worthy inheritor to their throne, the monarchs announce a contest for the prince’s hand. Three tasks shall be asked of those who enter: one of intelligence, one of strength, and one of bravery.

Eddie, a bard living with his day-laborer uncle, is blind to his magical heritage. He has little time for the comings and goings of the secretive nobility, who cloak their bodies in robes and hide their faces behind masks. A chance encounter with the prince causes Eddie to discover he is not at all the vapid fool everyone takes him for. The contest will provide a chance for both of them to change their futures.

    Summary

They’re down three members, because Doug and Ronnie graduated, and Frank’s been noncommittal since managing to drag himself out of bed, so it’s not like Eddie can tell Robin to get lost.

It’s not like he wants to, either, which is a thing, because Robin hates metal, but is apparently some kind of music savant. She moans about callouses and her fingers bleeding, but the fucking voice on her, Christ. It only takes her to mid-September to learn a good chunk of their set list. Jeff looks at her like she’s hung the moon. She keeps trying to convince them to learn “Our Lips Are Sealed.” She refuses to join Hellfire. She’s always late to practice because of marching band, and some time in the beginning of October Steve Harrington drops her off.

In the fall of 1984, Robin joins Corroded Coffin, and Eddie gets more than he bargained for.

    Summary

Steve peels into the parking lot at Starcourt, already five minutes late. All the good spots near the entrance are gone and she has to park further out and jog and dodge around the crowds, shoving through them to rush down the escalator and across the food court.

There’s no line at Scoops Ahoy, but that doesn’t stop Robin saying: “Oh, nice of you to finally join us,” with a roll of her eyes as Steve disappears into the back to shove her stuff into the locker and arrange the stupid fucking hat on her head, viciously sliding the bobby pins into place

    Summary

The image of that thing, that bullshit alien-looking monster, was branded into her mind. The way its face peeled back, all mangled and toothy, a dark, rotting maw flashing beneath flickering Christmas lights. The wild pounding of her heart, the smell of gunsmoke and gasoline, Jonathan’s hand encircling her wrist and dragging her urgently down the hall, Nathan’s wide eyes. Worse, the mildewy smell of its decaying skin and hot breath. The otherworldly roar of fury that tore out of it when she landed a hit. The grim-faced government agents at the hospital afterwards, with their guns and their threats and their fucking NDAs.

Now, her heart dropped into her stomach at every oddly shaped tree limb that loomed into view as she drove. Her pulse was still racing. She kept checking over her shoulder for somebody, or something, hiding in wait in the back seat even though she knew nobody was there.
