Steve pauses and looks at them.
What he wants is to stay with them. He doesn't have any family left, they all died before he even joined the war and became... this. Captain America turned whatever he is now. But Natasha and Sam have become his family over the years. Not just because they're on the run together, fugitives and vigilantes, but way before that too.
He doesn't want to leave that.
But he knows that, realistically, he can't stay with them and they can't stay with him.
So he looks at them with a smile and lies. “I don't know.”

There comes a point even when superheroes find themselves old enough to retire. For Bucky Barnes, that will never really come given that he's a hundred and four and spry as a 20-year-old, but for Sam Wilson, that age is a ripe 49.
Partners in the field, they become partners in retirement. Bucky puts his accumulated bank account to good use and purchases the two of them a nice beach house in Prismo Beach, California, in a spread-out neighborhood along a private beach.
Their closest neighbor is Steve Rogers, a young but well-known artist and environmental activist. He's got the plumpest peach of an ass either Sam or Bucky has ever seen. They'd like to make a sandwich out of him, and with their determination, they absolutely will.

Bucky was bartending like he did every night when a ruckus came from the door. A group of men streamed in, laughing and pushing and shoving. They looked rough. If they’d been wearing leathers, Bucky might’ve pegged them as a former-military-turned-biker-gang. Bucky’s experience put them as current, not former military. Possibly special ops. The final person attached to the rowdy group, however, was mostly quiet and very obviously reluctant to be there. Bucky found himself taking an interest.
Would meeting Steve Rogers and his STRIKE trainees prove to be a good thing or a bad thing?

If Bucky has to be stuck doing this ridiculous summer work program before his senior year of college, on a ranch in the middle of nowhere, then at least he’s got a hot as hell cowboy for a boss and host. Steve’s a widower though, and a nice guy in need of help, and no doubt 100% straight… so Bucky’s gonna work his ass off and keep his head down.
But neither Bucky nor Steve are prepared for the friendship that forms between them as they work side by side. And they certainly aren’t expecting the budding feelings, confessions, and passions that summer heat and the loneliness of the great open plains stirs in each of them. She looks him up and down, from boot to tight shirt to neat hair, and then sneers. “Why? Who the hell is asking?” She's got a faint French accent that adds a pretty lilt to her speech.
“I'm, uh, a friend,” Steve fumbles.
“Wrong lie, asshole. Bucky Barnes doesn't have any friends,” she says. “Get out.”

A prince, a guardsman, a garden.
When a curse is placed upon Prince James which says he is to be the instrument of his kingdom’s destruction, it’s decided that for his own good (and everyone else’s) he should be sent away from the royal city and the palace. Bucky goes into his exile with only a single solitary guardsman for both company and protection.
Steve doesn’t know what to make of his new assignment—it could be a promotion or a punishment in equal measure. Personal guard to one of the royal family is an honor, but now he’s locked in a walled garden, uncertain of just who it is he’s been tasked to protect. Yet Prince James seems set on surprising him from the start.
