Instead of the surge of retaliative emotion she had expected from such a definitive blow, Inej simply appeared genuinely puzzled, cocking her head slightly to one side. “Scared of who?”
“Him,” the girl spat, as if articulating the most obvious of facts to a simpleton. “When you stood by his side you were afraid. I could... tell.”
After pausing for a moment in obvious contemplation, she saw realisation wash over Inej’s face. Looking to the floor, the Lady whispered, “Never,” as he shook her head in sombre reverie. “I feel fear for him at times, but never of him. I know that Kaz would never hurt me.”
