Will Byers loves Mike Wheeler.
It shouldn’t be a big deal. Of course he loves Mike. He always has. But it’s never felt like this. It’s never hurt to think about it, but it also never felt like a revelation rather than a fact. It hurts, and there’s nothing he can do to ease the pain. He looks across the room at Mike and all he sees is beauty where minutes ago he only saw his best friend. He notices entire constellations in the freckles strewn across his nose, stars glittering in his eyes, and it all seems inevitable. He loves Mike. He loves him and it’s a foregone conclusion, a wish on a shooting star destined to burn out. He loves him and he can’t ever have him, not in that way, and there’s nothing in the world that can ever hurt him again quite like this.
OR: When the party dares Mike to tell someone he loves them for one hundred days, Will doesn't expect to be the unlucky recipient. He definitely doesn't expect it to consume his last three months in Hawkins. But like most things in his life, absolutely nothing goes to plan.

In the end, it doesn’t matter. None of it fucking matters. Because what’s really in control is the tension. This elusive string tied between their chests that’s always changing length. Right now it’s so short and taught and strong that Will can’t imagine resisting it. So really, it was never a matter of if he would. Just when. When will he fold? When will he let go and let himself follow Mike into the water?
He dares to glance down at his knees, where he can see Mike’s fingers peeking out from behind his calves (as if he needed that visual reminder that they’re touching), and then back up to meet Mike’s expectant gaze.
He’s going to do it. He’s such a fucking idiot.

Mike & Will have a long overdue conversation on the way back to Hawkins— by, in, and around a random motel pool.

“What about you, Sirius?” Peter asked, "who do you look like?"
Sirius’s breath stuttered to a halt, not at all prepared for this question to be directed at him. His leg stopped bouncing, his fingers stopped drumming, and even Remus’s calming circles on his arm stopped. Sirius felt utterly, completely frozen. James’s eyes widened slightly and Peter turned an alarming shade of scarlet; Sirius wasn’t sure whether he realized his mistake or if Remus had sent him a withering look.
“I think,” Remus spoke, breaking the silence, “that I look suspiciously like the mailman. Never confronted mum about it though.”

Walburga laughed, then. A slightly mad laugh derived more from insanity than glee. Nonetheless, she regarded Sirius with something resembling a smile before saying, “we’ll see about that.”
In hindsight, Sirius should’ve known. Should’ve known that anything offered to him by his mother was poison; hazardous and destructive and dangerous. But Sirius was a child, and if it made his mother seem so…pleasant, how could it be bad?

Summary
Sirius desperately wanted to avoid a fight. He did not like their odds one bit, but unless they ran and turned their backs on the Slytherins, it was looking like the only outcome. So, the question became how could he possibly get the upper hand?
He tilted his head to the side in thought and was aware that everyone was waiting for him to speak next. And that power, the total control he earned with the softening of his voice and the sharpening of his eyes, was utterly intoxicating. Does that make me like them? He shoved the thought forcefully aside to consider later, and let his gaze land on the Slytherin’s formation. How Snape stood ever so slightly behind the other two.
“All I know,” Sirius drawled, “is if I ever needed my friends to shield me,” and he signaled to Remus behind his back, “I would do them the courtesy of taking a shower first. And Snivellus, honestly, you might want to take another step behind them, because I’m not sure your gigantic, bulbous nose is entirely hidden where you are.”
And, as Sirius predicted, all hell broke loose.

At least I’d be closer to James who, if you’d forgotten, is in the hospital wing unconscious right now!” The because of me he left unspoken. “What are we even doing, critiquing the art?” It wasn’t even about the art, not really, but it felt good to have something to direct his anger at. “Should I mention how ridiculous that guy in the clearing looks? How hideous the trolls are? How shit the artist was at illustrating it all?”
Remus paused his footsteps in front of the tapestry, and regarded Sirius once more. “It’s Barnabas the Barmy,” he replied calmly.
“Excuse me? What?”
Remus motioned back to the tapestry. “The man dancing for the trolls. He has a name.”
Sirius could’ve killed him.

However, his stress melts away into a bittersweet melancholy as the break goes on, when he realises that not all kindness has to be a threat, or a trap. Sometimes, kindness is genuine, and sweet, and so very full of love, and, if he was being honest with himself, a bit overwhelming at times.

“How did I what?” Will swivels his head toward Mike, who’s looking back at him expectantly over the top of his comic book. He’s got on that thinking-face he does— the one that tells Will that Mike has definitely been staring at him for the past ten minutes minimum, trying to wrap his brain around some idea or another, like he’s working out a particularly difficult puzzle.
“Like, what do you like about them? Oh, come on, don’t look at me like that,” he complains, and Will assumes he must be making a face somewhere between skeptical and bewildered. “We never talk about it. Why is it boys for you?”

"This has been a recurring problem since Will came back from the Upside Down. Mike feels like he can’t take his eyes off him, ever. What if he disappeared again? Mike couldn’t let that happen. He’d already taken Will for granted once, and look what had happened.
