‘Oh my god.’ There it is. If anything’s going to sell her on this, it’s that this is all exactly the kind of shit that the boy she used to know would have gotten into.
‘Said boyfriend was, ah, displeased, to put it mildly? I nearly died twice that week. They both had a bite. Neither of them did what I actually wished they would.’

‘Nobody likes a sore loser, Daniel,’ says Armand, with an unmerited familiarity that sends a strange little thrill through him. Armand’s pretty mouth is twisted into an annoying smirk and Daniel knows it’s a dumb idea but goes ahead anyway, tilts his head and puts on the old reliable puzzled pout.
And he’s too distracted by the unfounded fondness in Armand’s great big eyes, too slow to notice the mirth dying in Alice’s face until she’s stood abruptly up and walked away from the table.
