Summary
A sword hangs over the stranger’s head.
He's dressed in a school uniform, but carries a briefcase in leather-clad hands. He's congenial but overly formal. Someone so put-together shouldn't be eavesdropping on an average trio of teenagers. It should just be funny that a random passerby would intrude upon a private conversation – it should be most shocking that he heard their secret fourth speak – but what strikes Akira to silence is the sword alone.

Akechi exists as an error in a perfect reality, forgotten by everyone but the one who erased him.
Akira doesn’t remember what once bound them, or the deal he made to forget about him, but Akechi remembers everything.
A brittle alliance might prove to be something neither of them can escape.As Maruki’s reality tightens its grip, Akira is forced to confront an irredeemable choice:
keep Akechi in the name of mercy,
or end the world that took their autonomy away.Some wounds can’t be healed.
And what is devotion, if not the choice to stand beside someone who refuses to be saved?-
Set after the events of Downfall, a canon-divergence in which Akechi got saved by Maruki after the events of the engine room, and Akira forming a deal to suppress his memories of Akechi entirely.
Can be read as a standalone.

Across town, Goro Akechi attends a conference that he’s convinced will be as dull as the last. Until he meets a stranger whose piano makes him stop in his tracks.
Somewhere in between, Akira is wondering if this is another cruel trick that fate is pulling on him again.
