Summary
Wellington. June 1942.
Ed Teach, head of Blackbeard Investigations, is ready to retire when he gets one last job offer: a fat cheque for the simple job of finding industrialist Bartholomew Bonnet's missing son, Stede. The problem isn't finding Stede—that's easy enough for the best skiptracer in the country—it's that the more Ed learns about Stede and his family, the more it becomes clear why Stede ran away in the first place. But Stede has something valuable of his father's, and Bonnet and his dangerous, well-connected allies will stop at nothing to get it back. The thing is, though...Ed's found something of value, too: Stede.
And Ed's not giving him up without a fight.

Summary
Ed can hear birdsong. Birdsong signalling that something in the ecosystem has shifted, dramatically. In a way that was impossible to notice when you’re immersed in it. And it hits him all at once, the realisation that the last ten years are coming to an end, that his period of bare bones survival is going to start shifting into something more active, something faster, something with significantly more intent behind it. After all, nobody tells you when the aftermath becomes just…after. Nobody can tell you when you’re going to feel safe enough to start living again.
or: Ten years after the world ended, Ed's running out of reasons to stay alive. Until one turns up on his literal doorstep, forcing him to reevaluate his definition of hope.

Summary
Stede, ambitious, yearning, lost in a life he doesn't know how to leave. Ed, musician, brilliant but jaded, rough past, future hollow. Young though they are, they're resigned to their lot in life.
But a chance meeting at a failed engagement party ignites a spark between the two of them. A spark that's difficult to deny even when their competing obligations makes it near impossible for them to be together.
And yet, somehow, in the wicked dance of time, they manage to meet again and again and again. Each time getting a little closer to something magical.
Because it's not the spark, but the fire you make from it that endures.
