The room started to fill with similarly-disbelieving chatter, but Shane was only half listening. They’d won the game, sure, but his mind was still on the goal he should’ve made in the third period. He was running through the play in his head carefully, repeatedly, unlacing his skates slowly as he watched it unfold in his head. He’d been running plays a lot the last few days, trying not to think about Ilya’s face when he told him to go home, Hollander.
“Their plane fucking crashed?”
The words cut through Shane’s thoughts like a knife. A plane crash? That wasn’t real. That kind of thing didn’t actually happen.
He heard his own voice before he even thought to say anything, before his brain even caught up to why his pulse had sped up so quickly. “Whose plane?”
OR
If the crash was a little bit worse, and there's no way to know anything - no news, no way to call. Is there really a choice to be made?

Four months ago, Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander bought new houses. If asked, they would both say it was a complete coincidence. They were not asked, because most people do not browse Zillow for fun in their free time (Shane-) and the real estate of hockey players was of very limited interest to even the most hardcore fan.
Two hours ago, Shane Hollander was bleeding out on the ice.
Yuna and David Hollander were at least three hours away, at the exact moment their son hit the ice. Yuna Hollander is a perceptive woman. If she enters the house, she will know her son does not live alone.

Nat takes a deep breath like this is just as hard for her as it is for him. “He’s alive,” she says, and Tony can’t—he can’t, he’s having a heart attack or something, maybe a stroke, maybe both.
“How do you figure?” he grits, eyes closed now. Picturing Peter. Laughing, he was always laughing. Peter at seven chasing his puppy around with a stick, Peter at eight hiding under the covers with Tony, tracing the outline of the arc reactor with a finger, does it hurt?

The laugh that leaves him is as inevitable as the surge of love he feels, and the answer comes easily as he thinks about the future that's spread out so wonderfully in front of them filled with the family he knows Ilya never really thought he'd have. "As dramatic as you want."

Hello! This is my first post, although I am a frequent visitor to this subreddit and have been for years. I have loved hockey all my life, but my real guilty pleasure is staying on top of all the behind the scenes gossip. As you can imagine, Scott Hunter kissing his boyfriend on the ice was a huge day for me!
I recently noticed something with Ilya Rozanov that I don’t think many other people have, and I decided to finally post about it here to see if anyone else shares my opinion. Every hockey fan I’ve talked to in my real life has brushed it off because Rozanov is known as such a womanizer, but I genuinely think he’s in some kind of serious long-term relationship.
Or the year before Ilya transfers to Ottawa, Shane and Ilya learn three things. Creating a charity is a fuck ton of work, coming out isn’t something you do just once, and the whole world seems to think Ilya Rozanov is in a committed relationship.Oh, and Ilya is addicted to Reddit hockey gossip.

Ilya finishes whatever he has been doing on his phone, and tosses it gently to the bed beside him. He crosses the room to Shane, stands in front of him, squeezes into his shoulders with his big hands, rubbing them like he means to warm them up.
“Looks like we will have a little vacation,” he says, with a big obnoxious grin.
Boston and Montreal are sent to Paris to play against each other in an exhibition series in January 2017. Ilya and Shane decide to stay in Paris for one more night. Just one more night, so they can talk. Maybe finally understand each other.
They aren't expecting a volcano to erupt in Iceland and close all the airspace in Europe, leaving them stranded there. Together.
