The second he wakes up this particular morning, Ethan can trace the day of the month to Jude’s behavior. They are already knees deep in raw red meat, with a permanent scowl fixed on their face, when he enters the kitchen.

He’s on the verge of shaking his head no when he looks down to see what’s eating at Alice. “I can explain…”
But no, he really cannot. There’s significant flesh missing from his right ribcage, with the wound having been delicately created in the shape of an X, as though the assailant had been some sort of perfectionist. As strange as it is, it only gets more and more bizarre as Nick realizes that his ribs are perfectly unbroken and the injury doesn’t even hurt. And then his eyes flutter to his arm again; he can’t even place the burn mark. His arm is clean and healed, not a scrape or scab or even a bruise in sight. He spares a gaze at the other appendage, finding it in the exact same condition. For a pretty well-powered witch, Nick has never, ever been able to figure out how to heal and regenerate himself or others.
“I think,” he’s breaking silence again, but this time around it’s uncomfortable as all hell. “I think I am just having a very rough go of it.”-
