    Summary

“Nice,” Drunk Man says, into the crook of his neck, and does nothing else. Wei Ying slowly relaxes, allows himself to pat Drunk Man between the shoulder blades, and sighs.

“Okay,” he says. “Glad you think so.”

Drunk Man does not respond. Wei Ying wonders if he went back to sleep, and then takes a further moment to wonder why this always happens to him, why he’s always the one helping a heartbroken twink sober up after a terrible night out or sitting on the curb with a sobbing teenager with a fake ID while they wait for her parents to come pick her up. If only he was as shitty a person as White Mike, he could be home asleep right now and this beautiful man would be passed out in a gutter and probably mugged. Wei Ying looks down at the drunk man on his shoulder, thinks about leaving him to fend for himself, and sighs. Nope. Not on his watch.

Or: A meet-cute at two in the morning.

    WIP REC SUMMER

Summary: Lan Wangji has been invisible as long as he can remember. All of Cloud Recesses treats him like a ghost, getting distracted and forgetting his existence whenever he moves or speaks. No one has met his gaze in years.

A visiting disciple named Wei Wuxian is the first person whose gaze sticks.

My comments: The first chapter of this story is just out and it's already sooo devastating. Not only is Lan Wangji cursed to be invisible, but this happens to him weeks after his mother's death T_T He's just a little kid and he thinks he's getting punished for not understanding that his mother is gone. I can't wait to see how this story progresses. I already need to hug Lan Wangji so much.

Excerpt: Next month, Lan Wangji watches the sun set.

Lan Xichen has not talked to him in three weeks and neither has Uncle. They do not acknowledge him when he requests permission to speak in class. Their eyes skim past him, as if he is empty air.

He has been kneeling for hours. He is surprised that he still exists, has not wafted away in the cold dusk and the isolation and the strangeness of no one having spoken to him in days.

He did this to Mother, perhaps. It is the only thing he can think of, the only reason why his brother does not smile at him and his uncle no longer praises him and his heart and knees are scraped raw from waiting. The punishment is not one he has seen administered before, but Lan Wangji hardly speaks, so it is fitting that his sentence is such that no one should speak to him. Mother has left, forever - he thinks he understands what gone means, now, the hole in his month and chest that will never again be filled - and it is his fault, and he will never be forgiven.

His fate is to be as alone as she was. As she is, now.

Summary: The Yiling community rallies together to help their newest neighbors, and the cultivation world is left with a mystery that may never be solved: the disappearance of the Yiling Patriarch.

My comments: Already loving this idea of Yiling rallying around the Wen remnants and Wei Wuxian. Love me some good YIling Settlement Days Fix-its.

Excerpt: There’s no singular defining instant Ma figures out the girl is a Wen. No single epiphany. No ah-ha! moment. It’s a series of clues that have always been present; Ma just needed to look.

There’s no shock. No disbelief. The information clicks quietly into place in her understanding.

It doesn’t change anything. Qing-er still makes her weekly visits to help with the laundry, gathering herbs, or any other menial task Ma’s old bones can’t handle as well as they used to. Sometimes she brings A-Yuan. Always, Ma Chen offers whatever she can spare.

Always, she wonders if there are other children. Deep down, she knows there aren’t.

Summary: Being an art student is hard enough without finding classical paintings that suggest that you've had a soulmate in multiple timelines, but Wei Wuxian guesses that this is just how his luck runs.

My comments: Once again, a wonderfully soft kintou Wangxian story that also makes you ache with its sprinkles of angst. Loved the aspects of reborn soulmates in this story. Very Wangxianist.

Excerpt: “Uhm—” Wei Wuxian starts, because surely there’s an explanation, right? Surely they can talk this out?

But saying ‘hey it seems that our fates are intertwined through multiple timelines’ doesn’t quite seem like the right thing to say so he finds himself staring at Lan Wangji with his mouth hanging open.

For a second he feels that same longing and tenderness that the painting displays. Wanting to talk. Wanting to laugh.

For Lan Wangji to stay next to him.

The feeling leaves him instantly when Lan Wangji, without looking at him, turns around, walks out of the room and disappears.

    “Oh,” he mumbles.

Then, he becomes awfully aware of how he’s standing in front of a painting that looks just like him. In a semi public space.
