Shane is used to feeling fuzzy with Rozanov. Like he’s floating higher, higher, higher. But this - this isn’t that.
Shane isn’t floating, he’s falling. Sinking down, down, down below, into darkness. It feels like there are waves crashing over his head, cold and sharp like needles against his skin, and when he does manage to breach the surface for a moment, he’s met with thick fog and a starless sky. It feels sort of like a concussion, but not. There’s no pain, just…haziness. Just a gaping, empty feeling, right in the centre of his chest.

"Don’t you think that's enough?" he asks instead, rather more sharply than he means to.
"No.” Ilya dismisses, turning back to the tired young woman ringing them in, “I will also take a fruit explosion muffin for morning, please."
“Okay, now you’re doing this on purpose.”

Between engine failures, fractured ankles, choking incidents, apartment floods, broken noses, fire alarms, and getting stuck in elevators, a reasonable person would stop writing.
Ilya Rozanov is not a reasonable person.

Confessing your feelings to your secret boyfriend while high on anesthesia in front of a nurse: -10/10, please make it stop.
Shane’s parents are in Belize, he’s got an emergency dental surgery, and Ilya drives two hours from Ottawa without hesitation. What follows is 24 hours of post-op care, an alarming amount of feelings said out loud, and the mortifying realization that yes, he really did call Ilya a “hot lion.”
At least the nurse was cool about the whole secret boyfriend thing.

Shane’s going to kill him. Or maybe he won’t. Maybe he’ll put on the stupid cat ears, just this once, just for tonight, and let Ilya see him the way nobody else gets to: unguarded, trusting, and finally willing to stop fighting for a few stolen hours.

"That noise. It sounded like—" Hayden started toward the hallway.
"NO!" Shane practically shouted as Hayden jumped. "No, I mean... it's fine. It's my pet mouse."
There was a long, painful silence.
"Your pet mouse," Hayden repeated slowly.
"Yeah. Named, uh... Stuart Little."
"You have a pet mouse named Stuart Little."
"Yep."
