Will takes a shallow breath, tries to swallow his nerves. He speaks flatly. “And?”
Henry blinks, seemingly surprised by Will’s coldness. “I chose you that day, you know.”
And Will sees himself, small and alone, riding his bike through the darkness. He sees the silhouette of something tall and not-human. He sees himself crashing his bike. Running home. But the creature unlocks the door. It follows him into the shed. It gets him.
“It was you,” Will whispers, a hand coming up to the back of his neck. The monster that took him. The possession. The visions. “It’s always been you.”

Summary
Shane had spent time—a lot of time, really—thinking about retirement. It came with the territory; on average, hockey players retired in their 30s, with a few outliers playing into their 40s. The really good ones got maybe three decades out of it all before putting the stick down and hanging the jersey up. In his mind, Shane liked to think he’d be one of them, playing till he hit forty-five, ending on some high note—the Centaurs winning their nth or so Cup, maybe—before fading, slowly, into the background.
It turned out it would all just end in a random game, with a random team, boom— all so definitively over that Shane was left falling, completely flailing, clueless about any next step.

Will sighs, resigned. He drops his hands. “Okay. Honestly?” He hesitates, then shrugs. “He was a bad kisser. And I just… couldn’t get excited around him. At all.”
The reaction is immediate and merciless. Dustin makes a dramatic gagging noise. El gasps like she’s been handed gossip gold. Lucas high-fives Max, shaking her hand in his.
Mike doesn’t say anything. He just watches Will, watches the way he shrugs it off, the way he laughs a little too loud, the way his ears go red.
Or, Will's new boyfriend is a bad kisser. Mike thinks it's a crime that no one has kissed Will properly. He's on a goal to change that, Carlton be damned.

Closer to it. Mike’s lips split into a smile that makes Will’s insides feel soft and gooey. “I’d like that.”
Or, Will has powers and doesn’t know what to do with them. Mike is his anchor, like he always is, like he always has been.

The Metros were not due to arrive until the morning, but during training, Ilya had spotted someone sitting up in the stands, a dark hoodie pulled over their head. He had leaned on his stick, panting and squinted up at them. It wasn’t completely out of the ordinary for someone to be sitting watching them, but they were usually rinkside. They didn’t usually skulk up near the rafters.
Ilya knew it was Shane. Even from this distance, he could tell. It was the way he held himself, the dark hair just peeking out of his hood. He wasn’t stupid enough to show up in Metros gear, but Ilya knew that hoodie. It had been on his hotel room floor more than once.
Or, Shane turns up at the Boston Raiders practice a day before they play against the Montreal Metros.
