With two more championships under his belt, 2025 and 2026 won easily, Marc misses it. Misses the way racing was before, when he was surrounded by other riders like him; monstrous, savage, aliens. Misses the thrill that would go down his spine when he had riders like Valentino hunting him down, or the starved feeling he would get when he did the hunting. The wish for it all back thunks in his chest, sits there after every win and victory and moment of hollow nothing. Sometimes he even wishes he could go back in time and do it again, hell even further back. Race against shorn-haired Valentino, with his fire and his youth and the future stretching out before him. A dangerous wish.

In retrospect, Marc should’ve throttled Valentino Rossi on live television after the move he pulled on him in Laguna Seca. It was 2013 and Rossi, a freshly crowned Moto2 champion with an ego hyperinflated by the fact that Yamaha was a genuine contender in the championship, had pulled what he called the “Marquez” special at the Corkscrew corner and charged to victory.
(Or, the one where Marc is the legend of old and Vale is the brat who joins the grid in 2013 and wastes no time in coining Rosquez.)

Marc sees no danger in occasionally texting his former-idol-now-arch-enemy, since he knows he's been blacklisted on Valentino's phone for a long time. He amuses himself with random one-sided conversations, and tries to pretend it doesn't hurt that every message goes unanswered.
Until one lazy Sunday morning, Valentino actually answers.
14 hours later, Marc's in Tavullia on the back of a promise and a lifetime of want. As long as they don't talk, everything will be fine.
Only, Valentino really seems to want to talk.Two things are for sure: the Academy boys are likely scarred for life, and if Alex Marquez could roll his eyes any harder, we all know he would.
