Summary
Several months after the events at Les Arbres, River Cartwright is summoned to Regent's Park at the request of Diana Taverner and handed an op: find out who is killing the Dogs involved in a botched undercover sting at a nightclub and put them down. Worse than being made to clean up her mess (as usual), she informs him that his partner on the op is James Webb, who, to River's knowledge, has been dead for a year. Now forced to work together while River's life feels like it's coming apart, the proximity starts to unearth things they have both worked so hard to bury.
Or: River and James get assigned to an op, and they both learn the hard way just how much people change. And how sometimes certain things never do.

Summary
There is a young god in the sky, and he needed the Winchesters to die in order to bring his father back to life.
For the Winchesters, death is a currency, and while Dean and Sam are intent on pretending that they are unaffected by the trauma of their most recent passing, and Castiel’s as well, Cas knows it isn’t true.
Now, he is human, and has to live with the consequences of his death, and the confession he’d uttered just prior to it. No matter the discomfort he, and others given another chance at life, feel about it.

Cas looks even more tired than Dean feels. His eyes are red and the bags under them are more prominent than ever. His hair is a hot mess, reminding Dean of the time when Cas was still able to take off any second with just a flick of his wings. The cut on his neck is covered with a white bandage now and he wears different clothes, a gray sweatpants and a black shirt with a hole on the collar, that Dean recognizes as one of his. It makes him look different. It makes him look soft.
Dean likes it a lot.

Cas is back and that is great. Except that it worries Dean how much Cas struggles to adjust to humanity, haunted by nightmares and memories every night. So it's just a gesture of their friendship, despite Castiel's feelings for him, when Dean offers Cas to stay with him at night.

It’s near impossible not to, really; you’re given the hardest choice you’ll ever make after the most horrific few days of your life, and you have forever to stew in the consequences of it. Pete has been stewing in it, indeed. “Do you really think you can wish for anything?” he asks. “It shouldn’t have been possible to get that kid an elephant so soon, but—”
“You want a magical wish, then? Like a fucking genie? It’s all hypothetical anyway. Go for it.”
Their feet move in tandem, like soldiers. The horrible ache in Pete’s stomach has gone away. This is the only time it ever goes away: here, in a dream, with Ray. “Well, I’d ask if I could just go on walking with you forever.”

I did it, I caved and beat-for-beat re-wrote THG with Ray and Pete. But there are still some surprises in there! As of updating this description I'm officially 2/3 of the way through the book! Hunger Games fans, you know what that means!
I would call this film characterisation combined with book lore. If you haven't read the book you'll probably just presume some characters are OCs lol. And if you haven't read The Hunger Games I (albeit briefly) explain the worldbuilding lore here, so you won't be lost.
