Penelope shoved Colin lightly in the chest, which was quite a feat given that she barely reached five feet (four feet eleven sadly – she hoped and prayed she’d at least gain that additional inch soon) and he was a giant, six feet tall already and likely to still grow. He just shot up one summer, as tall as his older brothers now, lanky and gangly with those long arms and legs. She was a bit jealous, honestly. He had nice, long legs (he was, truthfully, all leg) and she had stubby little ones.
He grinned back at her, nicking another cube of cheddar cheese and making a show of throwing it in the air and catching it in his mouth, a complicated maneuver to be sure. “Cool trick, yeah?” He asked in between chews.
“You’re not supposed to be eating the cheese, Col,” she said irritably. “You’re supposed to be teaching me how to make this.”

It was amazing that a toddler seemed to understand the spirit of the season more than most adults. His heart squeezed with longing.
