Summary
Madara's oldest sister was getting married, and he just knew that if he once more turned up single to a family gathering, especially a wedding, there would be no escaping the various relatives that were all too happy to play matchmaker. So, in his desperation, because he needed someone his family wouldn't recognize, he turned to Hashirama, hoping that he could help him out with a fake date to bring along.

And it did. Tobirama got no childhood like the rest of them. In that instance Hashirama and himself failed
“— we moved our sights to the broad scope of including all children. That was this villages purpose. A place that children didn’t have to grow up and die, Hatake.”
Madara takes a breath between shouting and growling and Hatake hasn’t moved an inch so he might as well deliver a killing blow.
“And in that I’m sorry.” Madara says vehemently, “because you Hatake Kakashi are the complete embodiment of what we were aiming to eliminate children having to suffer through.”
“We failed,” Madara says quieter, knowing now it won’t make a difference, “so you can count on me taking this place out if I implode. Then someone might actually succeed it what we didn’t.”

Summary
The difference between Madara or Tobirama with Hashirama in the office. Who can move their feelings aside and live in the village peacefully. Who can peacefully coexist without offending the other party?
Madara was settling in the village very well before the fight between Senju and Uchiha on the battlefield became a fight behind closed doors.
Tobirama was not. His negative biases and beliefs about the Uchiha were not negated with his positive language about passing certain policies when it's entrenched in his very biases against the Uchiha.
Upcoming section on how Tobirama's ships portray him as more right and valid than Madara and Hashirama when it comes to canon. If he is seen as "morally gray" or not, it does not matter. For most fanon, he is not portrayed as "morally gray" and "wrong".
