He doesn’t need to know about the evenings Jean has spent curled on Cat’s shoulder in the living room, staring aimlessly at the television in front of them without absorbing a single thing. He doesn’t need to know that Jean is dying, slowly, inside, a little bit every day. He doesn’t need to know any of that. And he won’t. Not if Jean can help it.

Summary
Jean wonders, briefly, what he is supposed to do now. He thinks about Jeremy going into that empty room with someone else. He thinks about them pinning Jeremy to Derrick’s useless bed. He thinks about the brown of Jeremy’s eyes being the only visible color through the mass of dark air, how close they would be.
He was right. This is a stupid game.
Then the bottle stops, and Jean recenters.
It’s pointing right back at him.
At the Trojans’ end of semester party, Jean and Jeremy get paired for a game of seven minutes in heaven.

Summary
The fresh bruises around Jeremy’s neck ache like a noose made out of thorns. He has no way of hiding them once he enters the house, and for the first time in a long time, Jeremy isn’t sure he wants to. Not that he’s proud of the reminders of what happened a few hours ago; he never is. But this time, he wants someone to reassure him that he’s worth more than his used body—that this fatigue of running away can be satisfied by someone’s comfort.
Jeremy’s recent hookup hurt more than it should have. For the first time since the start of this bad habit, he allows himself to find comfort in Jean.

“Hey,” a soft voice said from the doorway.
“Hey,” Jeremy said, still looking into the mirror, a slight blush creeping across his cheeks.
There was a soft creak of the floor, and Jean slipped into view behind him in a navy blue sweater and black jeans, wrapping his arms around Jeremy’s shoulder and looking over one side so he could catch his gaze through the mirror. He crossed his arms over Jeremy’s bare chest.
“Are you okay?” He murmured, eyebrows pinching as he studied Jeremy in the mirror.
“Yeah,” Jeremy sighed, and when Jean only kept looking at him, he rushed to say, “Do these jeans look okay? Like, are they, I don’t know, do they look good?”

He couldn’t breathe, he couldn’t —
“You’re okay, you are okay.”
Soft hands on his shoulders, gently pushing him up so he was sitting. A warm touch up and down his spine, comforting words and gentle kisses to his temple.
He brought a hand to his chest, trying to force his breaths to slow and deepen, and after a minute or so he was able to get them to.
“What’s wrong, Jeremy? What happened?” A finger and a thumb on his chin pulled his gaze towards his partner's furrowed brow and frown.
And the last thing he had wanted to do was worry Jean, so he shook his head and put on a smile, and said, “Nothing, I’m fine. I just had a weird dream and —“
“Don’t do that. Not with me,” Jean held his gaze, not allowing Jeremy to look away. Not letting him take the easy way out.
Jeremy sighed, and Jean let his chin drop.
With his gaze on the comforted, he said, “I just —“
But then his throat closed up and his eyes heated and all he could choke out was, I’m sorry, before he was crying again.

There's something addictive about Jean's willingness to do anything Jeremy asks if he just says it in a sweet enough way. Jeremy is hardly one to judge when he's walking around every day with a praise kink of his own, but Jean's proclivity to being sweet talked in bed was such a delightful surprise that Jeremy doesn't think he's ever going to get over.
