    Nick Nelson was beginning to have a collection on his arm.

    Of pen marks, that is. Maybe a few birthmarks. A couple bruises, he could thank his addiction to rugby for that. But mostly pen marks. Streaks of blue and black covering his arm like some half finished portrait, a story written on skin instead a smooth rocky wall of a cave stained with age.

    It kind of reminded him of Charlie.

    When he first met Charlie, he drew a smiley face on his hand. It was kind of a joke, but mainly an accident, something that would wash off at the end of the day.

    What he didn’t tell Charlie (and still hadn’t, to be honest), was that later that night, when he got home, he drew another smiley face on his own hand.

    That wasn’t an accident.

     

    Or, in summary: Charlie is Nick's comfort person.
