Summary
“Welcome to The Beast,” He announces of his beat up 1999 Subaru Legacy as he takes his space in the driver’s seat. The car, once unflaked red, has faded in the gnawing sun to a desaturated raw sapphire. It features an unoriginal driver’s door wearing a spray can paint job. It’s not stunning, but it adds character.
“The Beast?”
“Well, her name’s Beatrice. But ‘The Beast’ sounds a little cooler. So I lie when I’m trying to impress someone,” Josh shoots a wink. The only indication that Tyler saw it is the eye roll and dusting of red before he speaks.
“Beatrice. I like that. Like Beatrice Portinari,” Josh’s face lights with excitement.
“Yes! Exactly!” A giggle fills the small space. Tyler can’t help it; Josh is cute when he’s excited. It’s a bit tempting to find that they both hold literature in high regard. “She is love,”
The dramatic declaration leaves Tyler conceiving a fond grin, but Josh isn’t kidding. Tyler can tell by the stars in his eyes. This fascinates him more. With the playful tone, the kid is able to relax his shoulders a little. His head twitches-one, two, three-to offer some comfort.
