He was 16 the first time he pitted himself against Wild Tiger.
He'd been warned not to, but while he'd prided himself in being analytical, he'd wanted to do something to show his thankfulness to the people who had taken him in when he'd lost his parents.
He wanted to pay Maverick back for his kindness.
Teenage logic thus dictated: if the existence of Wild Tiger made Maverick's life difficult, then removing Wild Tiger from the equation could only make it better for his mentor.
No one had ever claimed that being analytical equalled being smart.
Or how even if pitted against each other as enemies Barnaby Brooks Jr. and Kotetsu T. Kaburagi will find a way to make a mess.

What could possibly make Charles turn from his path, sour the dream of having a school for mutants? Erik? Not really, because things are never black or white and sometimes you learn the hard way who you can trust with your life as well as your hopes for the future. It's a little heart breaking, but in all the good ways, it's a look at what might happen when the world learns of mutants. For better or worse, Charles might not be allowed to have what he wants, but it doesn't mean he'll just give up.

Inspired by, but not actually a fill for, this prompt: Charles/Erik Unwanted sub: There are stories where Charles is Erik’s sub and they are both happy, but what about some more angsty theme? AU where mutants and humans live together but mutants think themselves more important and often treat humans like dirt. Sub/Dom pairs are created by imprinting. Mutants generally imprint on mutants and Erik who is the most powerful among them thinks that he will have equally powerful sub. Turns out that he imprints on Charles – a brilliant yet entirely human Professor.
The moment of imprinting: overpowering, irresistible, and most importantly, uncontrollable. As Charles and Erik are about to find out.

Charles is human but still fighting for the mutant cause. Imprinting happens, and of all the people to imprint on Charles, it's Erik, who is furious because as one of the main leaders of the cause, how can he possibly imprint of a human?
