But now, that world might reach its apocalypse when the news that PJ is leaving Mercedes hit the tabloids. And worst of all, his replacement is Red Bull’s two-time world champion Daniel Howell, who has a reputation for having a little bit of an ego.

Summary
Dan has, over the years, cultivated a pretty strong stance on the matter of marriage. It's a social construct, it puts too many expectations on a relationship, it makes him feel trapped, it doesn't actually mean anything, and he does not need a flimsy paper to prove to somebody that he loves Phil. It's the epitome of everything he hates in society.
Oh, and this weird pile of feelings in the back of his brain that has been rapidly growing in size as of recent? Don't even worry about it.

So he didn't really feel the need to reminisce about the time he used to hook up with his best friend, back when he was a repressed emo boy at university, and got so overwhelmed by his own feelings that he ruined everything. He ruined their friendship, and anything else that could've happen from there.
So no, he won't let his surprising encounter with Phil unearth the feelings he tried his very best to bury deep down, more than a decade ago.
