After the events of the Metal Virus, Sonic tries to kick back and relax, knowing the incident has given him a few grey quills.
But there's a heavy dread that continues to looms over him, a feeling he can't quite place. Because everything is fine now. He's fine.
Sonic begins to doubt that (the first part) when the Chaos emeralds start acting off.
And everyone doubts the latter when Sonic starts acting off.
Something was very, very wrong.

Sonic spent all his life growing up in the woods. Before meeting an evil genius that threatened to capture the forest critters, all he knew was that he had been left to fend for himself since young.
Shadow was raised in a spacecraft far above earth. His designated birthplace being a capsule in a laboratory, only purpose being to cure a sickly girl. Also, his biological father is an eldritch monstrosity.
With their totally normal upbringings, leave it to these two to care for a small helpless child! Nothing could go wrong, right?

Fire Spirit doesn’t respond. It’s strange, seeing him like this, where normally the egotistical guardian would be rambling his ears off at any possible chance.
