Summary
The first time Danny saw Batman, he was elbow-deep inside a broken laundromat dryer.
This was not how he had imagined meeting Batman.
Not that Danny had spent a great deal of time imagining it. He had been in Gotham for exactly nine days, and most of those days had been occupied by more immediate concerns, such as finding food, avoiding police officers, figuring out which gargoyles were decorative and which ones had cameras hidden in their mouths, and trying not to sleep anywhere that smelled strongly of chemicals.
Gotham had a surprising number of places that smelled strongly of chemicals.
It also had Batman.
Everyone knew Gotham had Batman. Danny had known that before he arrived. Batman was one of those facts people carried around without really thinking about it, like Antarctica being cold or school cafeterias serving pizza that technically qualified as an object but not necessarily as food.
Batman lived in Gotham.
Batman punched criminals.
Batman brooded.
Batman had probably never once in his life been elbow-deep in a broken laundromat dryer.
Danny was beginning to suspect this was a serious oversight in Batman’s education.

Meetings in the Watchtower, many members of the Justice League were disappointed to discover, tend to be really boring. Usually the bulk of it tended to involve buzzwords like 'synergy' and 'community outreach' that made people wonder where in the corporate totem poll Batman resided in since it all seemed to come to him so easily.
This time, however, everyone welcomed the distraction of the doors to the meeting room loudly opening. Nightwing and Robin entered with a small group of mostly masked children trailing behind them.
"Yeeeaaaah...I have some good news and some bad news," declared Nightwing, "the good news is that this is just temporary and it will wear off."
