Jim Hopper is finally getting used to Mike hanging around the cabin. Until, he walks into the kitchen and sees two Mikes sitting at the table.
One is politely eating waffles and having a quiet existential crisis; the other is currently trying to see how many grapes he can fit in his mouth while wearing a bright yellow "I LOVE MILFs" t-shirt.
Will calls the new one 'Richie.' Richie calls Hopper 'Big Jim.' Mike calls Richie 'A cursed funhouse mirror.'
Hopper is getting his gun.

Summary
1987: "You're so much like your father. He must be so proud of you."
Will Byers says goodbye to Mike Wheeler for what he thinks is the last time. Mike's choosing Northwestern, pre-law, the safe life, everything Will can't be part of. The words haunt Mike for the next ten years.
1997: Lucas and Max's wedding forces them back into the same room. Mike's married to Linda, a lawyer at his father's firm, living the life Ted Wheeler always wanted for him. Will's in New York with Ryan, building a career as an illustrator, trying to forget the boy who broke his heart.
But some things don't stay buried.
Until Lucas and Max's wedding. Until Mike finally admits he's been drowning for a decade. Until Will says he's had twelve boyfriends and none of them are Mike. Until they stop running.Or: Mike Wheeler spent ten years being his father. It took losing Will Byers to realize he'd rather be himself.

Maybe they just drifted there together, pulled by gravity.
Gravity implied something natural, the law of physics, just the quiet truth of mass and pull. Of bodies finding each other no matter how many times they pushed apart. He was sure there had always been something pulling him toward Mike. Like Mike was a fixed point, and Will was the one in motion, drifting, falling, failing to break free. Hawkins to California to New York. And still, somehow, the arc always bent back.
He had spent so long convincing himself that distance would heal him. That if he could just put enough miles between himself and Mike, the ache would dull. That the feelings would evaporate like fire without oxygen.
How long could he keep pretending this pull didn’t exist?
Will wondered, distantly, if Mike felt it too.
Or if gravity only worked one way.
OR
After the monsters are gone, Will and Mike lose each other and slowly move to different groups. They drift apart without ever saying goodbye. Years later, college places them back in each other’s orbit, bringing with it the weight of everything they never said, as well as all the feelings and lies they thought they’d left behind.

It feels like Mike’s entire body trembles, shakes like it’s about to burst. “You didn’t think it’d matter if you lied to me?” He hisses, and his voice cracks, just the littlest bit.
