“I'm almost 30, Beka."
“Hardly,” Otabek responds without missing a beat. Yuri is 27 and Otabek will be 30 in less than three weeks. Honestly, it's inconsiderate for Yuri to talk this way about his age, but since when is Yuri considerate?
Yuri sighs, banging the back of his head against the island wall. “Ugh, but still. I'm already dried up. Everyone left for shitty husbands and wives and kids.”
Otabek shifts his eyes lazily to Yuri. “Where did I go, exactly?”
Yuri squints, flicking at a ball of lint by his foot. “Nowhere, I guess.”
There's something in his tone that hints the opposite.

It's tournament time! And Yuri's ready to sweep the court with every pathetic team who crosses their path.
Riding high from their first match, a wrench is thrown in Yuri's plans when the gym their second match is in is twice as big as expected. And when their competitors turns out to include Otabek Altin: The underdog of youth volleyball. The dark horse who came out of nowhere and proved so damn good at the game, his team and competition in Kazakhstan couldn’t hold on to him. The man some Russian scout swooped in and snagged before anyone else could.
Yuri isn’t the only member of his team to take notice of the infamous player. Lilia seems to recognize him, too. But she straightens her already perfectly aligned spine, holds her head high, and tells her team to take their places.
Maybe he’s the only one who feels this way, but that alone helps restore some of Yuri’s faith. After all, they’re the Ice Tigers! The team with a reputation of being one of the best in all of Russia! They have a long-standing history of winning, their trophies fill an entire hallway back at school, and a good portion of them have Lilia’s name on them, either as a player or a coach.
Losing isn’t in their nature.

Summary
After slipping into a department in the laboratory Yuri doesn't have clearance for, he sees the subject they're researching floating in a tank in the middle of the room. But why are they there? What purpose does the subject serve? What kind of experiments are they running?
Upon being noticed and escorted out of the mysterious room, Yuri can't stay away. Something about the subject keeps drawing him back. So, he finds ways to keep visiting the department, to keep seeing the being he's not even sure is human, always asking the same question in his mind; Who are you?
During one of his visits, hell breaks loose. The subject escapes. Then, Yuri truly comes face to face with the creature he's found so fascinating and learns the truth about who he is and what he desires.
