There was only one contact, only one person that Dick ever messaged using this phone. He tapped on the “new message” icon, knowing that, if he scrolled, he would see years worth of back and forth messages containing a history of risque photos sent in the middle of restless nights, coordinates for secret rendezvous, simple messages of desire, and months long radio silence when both parties thought it was over for one reason or another. But then the messages would resume, they always did, bringing along an avalanche of desperation and passion. It was an endless cycle of the highest highs and the lowest lows.
But tonight Dick had sent what he had sworn to himself would be the final message. After tonight, he would get rid of the phone and the invisible chain that had kept him owned and bound all these years.
