Summary
Ilya hated the way his body responded to Shane’s voice. He tried to ignore the wave of warmth he got just being near the other man. The longing that tried to desperately crawl its way out of his skin, begging for the space to breathe in a life where maybe he could have this. Have him. But he couldn’t have this. He couldn’t have him. He had Russia, and he had his obligations to his family, and the weight of disappointment under the expectations of his father.

Every excuse that his brain could come up with felt equally weak and unlikely. If only his head would stop spinning, then maybe he could think clearly. Again, he tried to force himself up and out of the bed, this time feeling something as he struggled. Something that was holding him down. Something that made his stomach sick with dread as he realized it wasn't just his weak muscles preventing him from moving.

Guilt and emotional manipulation. These were things that described Ilya's relationship with his brother for as long as he could remember. There might have been a time when they were young, when their mother was still alive, when their father's heart hadn't hardened fully, when their relationship looked different.

Summary
The pictures were leaked right before dinner. Shane was getting out of the shower when he heard the crash from the kitchen. He ran to find his husband frozen in the middle of the room with one hand on his phone; the salad bowl that was a wedding gift from the Hayses was now a mix of glass and kale on the floor.
