Oscar isn’t ashamed to admit that he’s genuinely kind of terrified when he signs with McLaren. Even putting aside the entire drama that is the contract debacle with Alpine. It had been bad enough being their reserve driver, he didn’t think he could stand to be their actual driver.
Still, the guilt had been weighing on him like something heavy. Both for the entire drama, and the knowledge of whose seat he had taken exactly.
He was glad suddenly that he had never gotten around to disclosing his real designation to the team, because at least that was one less thing they could use against him.or
(Oscar, a newly presented omega does what anyone could do when panicking; he lies about his designation. He think's it will be an easy situation, right up until the grid begins acting so strange)

“Maybe next week Max will let you win,” Tom jokes.
Charles chuckles a little, but looks even more uncomfortable than he did before.
Max, still riding on his anger from Charles admitting Ferrari are upset with him, raises the microphone.
“That is not funny,” he says, barely restraining himself from unleashing his anger on Tom.
If he doesn’t put a stop to this now, people will always speculate. They will always wonder: did Max let Charles pass? Did Charles go wide on purpose? Are they going easy on each other? Are they sharing team secrets?
“What, you think that because I love him that I would just let him pass by me? You do not know anything about our relationship, and you clearly do not know anything about me if you think that I would do this. If I let anybody win, I would not deserve my seat in F1. This joke is stupid, and it is insulting.”
or: following their very public trackside and podium kisses, Max and Charles deal with the consequences of their coming out. They knew things would be difficult; but they didn't really expect the many, many ways it would change their lives.

"Can't say I'm sorry Mr. Best-Qualifier, let's have a good and safe race tomorrow, yeah?" Jokes the RedBull driver after the mandatory photos while patting Charles on the back and giving a very brief squeeze on his waist. Charles rolls his eyes at how he underlines the word 'safe'.
"Yep, congratulations on the pole," says Charles touching his shoulder "I'll make sure you check your rear mirrors, don't say I didn't warn you," before going away gulping down his water.
Or, Charles is tired of being perfect and Max doesn’t help. At all.

A Netflix Original special episode.
Three months after their disappearances at the Silverstone Grand Prix, the drivers share their experiences as they prepare to race in Austin.
Something isn’t right, but Max can’t put the pieces together. There should be a yellow flag, right? He weaves across the track. Red quickly appears in his mirrors, Charles still driving at race pace, and Max’s competitive instincts tell him to speed back up but he swallows it down, committing to the potentially stupid safety car speed.
Thankfully, Charles slows down before he collides into the back of Max’s car. They’re joined by George’s Mercedes, one of the lapped Haas cars, the second Red Bull. They pass Pierre and Logan by the second corner, not crashed, just sat by the side of the track. Carlos stops on the straight between turns five and six. Lance is standing on his seat, staring out towards the grandstands, and Max can’t hear any cheering.

Summary

Max Verstappen, the reigning victor of chaos, is one of those majestic, great men whose adventures and exploits are preserved in history. Legends and myths are created for such heroes. For those men's seconds, they must be content with smaller acknowledgment, smaller acts, and smaller sacrifices.
These spotlights rarely shine so dimly on these men, though. Their allegiance is primarily what makes them blind to the displayed love. For Charles Leclerc, it was his pride.
