Sam was as well-adapted to Compact life as any other Sophont. She went to not-work every day, (Affini Compact didn't like her calling it work) had normal hobbies, enjoyed Compact food. Really, she was just another independant who happened to like her old job as a flight attendant. Just because she was growing friendly with a regular Affini passenger didn't mean anything, right?
Pangea was quite busy, even by Affini standards, but not busy enough to ignore her draw towards that adorable flight attendant she'd met on a work trip. The little thing had simply been adorable, and it wasn't like delaying her flights by a few hours or sometimes a day or two would be a big loss in the grand scheme of things. Her work was hardly urgent, but her time with the flightless bird was a precious commodity she didn't wish to miss out on.

The year is 2556, Humanity's great star empire, the Terran Accord, has been dissolved by evil plant aliens from another galaxy, the Affini. Across formerly Terran space, sporadic resistance cells and rebel groups are methodically stamped out one by one. Tales of enslavement, brain eating parasites, and other horrors that would await anyone who fell into the clutches of the insidious Affini are the only drive for free Terrans to keep fighting a losing war. In this bleak future, we follow the story of a captain of a Terran rebel ship, who loses her grip on her crew and has a brush with death, only for her most hated enemy to scoop her up and nurse her back to health, probably to enslave or torture her.
This plays in Glitchyrobo's Human Domestication Guide setting! I recommend reading the original, as well as a bunch of other foundational stories before this, because I do build up on concepts created by said stories and I might not always fully explain them to satisfaction in this story.
