Humanity has been invaded by a precursor race of hypercompetent plant dommes called the Affini, and forcibly given paradise in a post-scarcity culture that heavily prioritizes the care for its protectorates, to the point of drugging and mind-controlling them into a blissful reverie if necessary. For almost everyone this is a vast improvement. All that’s required is to give up any silly notions that anyone except for the Affini know what’s best for everyone; in many cases the poor things clearly don’t.
This story takes place between To Seek What They Sought and Walk Between Worlds. It contains information found in the first chapter of Walk Between Worlds. It is recommended to read at least up to that point before reading this.
