Summary
The year is 2556, Humanity's great star empire, the Terran Accord, has been dissolved by evil plant aliens from another galaxy, the Affini. Across formerly Terran space, sporadic resistance cells and rebel groups are methodically stamped out one by one. Tales of enslavement, brain eating parasites, and other horrors that would await anyone who fell into the clutches of the insidious Affini are the only drive for free Terrans to keep fighting a losing war. In this bleak future, we follow the story of a captain of a Terran rebel ship, who loses her grip on her crew and has a brush with death, only for her most hated enemy to scoop her up and nurse her back to health, probably to enslave or torture her.
This plays in Glitchyrobo's Human Domestication Guide setting! I recommend reading the original, as well as a bunch of other foundational stories before this, because I do build up on concepts created by said stories and I might not always fully explain them to satisfaction in this story.

But an Affini's very nature is to flower, and something about this particular sprout is beckoning her to love and risk loss once more.

Whatever hope the Terran Accord has of winning their conflict with the encroaching Affini Compact withers by the day. Few people will likely mourn it when it's gone.
After years of systematic, Kafkaesque denial of the hormones that Jolene desperately needs to be herself, the presence of an affini ambassador in and around her University opens a new door. The towering plant has been offering xenodrugs for party purposes, likely as a way to find collaborators in the crumbling regime. With no particular loyalties in either direction, Jolene makes a deal in exchange for Class-G's to enact the changes that her own systems will not.
Spiru Gaba, Sixth Bloom, is not among the most honest of Affini to make that deal with, but maybe she'll manage.

Ever wanted to find out how a HDG fic would handle an independent sophont being forced to take care of an affini would work? No? Okay! Good thing for you that there's surprisingly little of that in this outside of the concept being given to Cybelle.
This is just a big "What If...?" scenario where an affini is forced to rebloom in an independent's garden and said independent is entrusted a level of care with her.
If I ever get around to it, it'll be more than just the "What If...?" and perchance will contain some level of after-story shenanigans. -
