Summary
There's a groan of confusion from the hospital bed. Eddie's eyes creak open.
Wayne and the man with the shotgun freeze as they watch him take in this new development.
His eyes rove sleepily across each one of them in turn before he yawns widely. "Steve, meet my Uncle Wayne," he says calmly, to a choked noise from the man Wayne now knows as Steve.
"Wayne, meet my Steve,” He introduces him with a twirl of his fingers. “We're going on a date once I stop pissing blood." He only has enough energy to treat them to a clumsy set of devil horns before his eyes slide shut. “Love you, ‘night.”
Or, the town still considers Eddie to be a murderer, so Steve keeps guard at his bedside as he recuperates. Only the man he pulls a shotgun on ends up being Eddie's uncle. That's certainly one way to meet your future father-in-law.

He nearly gets away with it, is the thing. Three sessions in and the kids haven’t realized the BBEG isn’t the tarnished knight with the swooping hair and the stupid dad jokes they groan at every time. They still think the wizard leading them towards imminent destruction is on their side, and as his reluctant hero of an NPC warns them to be wary even Will the Wise rolls his eyes and misses the opportunity for a perception check that barring a Nat 1 would have, at the very least, told them that one of them wasn’t to be trusted.
He’s not even trying that hard to hide the incredibly obvious parallels – the courtship the knight had once had with the sister of Wheeler’s paladin, the reluctant way he continuously steps in when the party gets themselves into a hairy situation, the incredibly obvious boner Eddie has for this stupid character he’s created solely for the purpose of a reveal he both does and does not want them to discover early on.
