It’s the same every goddamn time. Always the same. Every time.
He evaded the bullet shot at him, now knowing Cheng Xiaoshi was about to appear in front of him. He’d take the bullet for him, he’d fight Vein off just long enough to escape with Lu Guang into the darkroom, and he’d die in his arms all over again.
Always the same.
The gun pointed at his head, and he heard Xiaoshi clap from the other side of the room.
Fuck it. If he can take a shot for me, I can take a shot for him.
Due to Lu Guang's interference, Cheng Xiaoshi survives this time, however with a fairly permanent side-effect.

First: he has twelve hours, because that’s as far as Lu Guang can lead him—he’d been fucking around unsupervised in the past for three months now.
Second: follow Lu Guang’s lead, don’t make things up on his own—his life for the past several months had been a constant one-man improv show he was playing to his unknowing friends.
Third: the past and the future must remain unchanged—he supposed this would be his biggest betrayal, then. What it also meant was that Lu Guang couldn’t find out, or it would ruin everything between them. And ‘guilt’, he found, was a pretty decent word to describe it.

Lu Guang narrowed his eyes.
CHeng Xiaoshi gave him a pointed look. "Except you never give me cookies."
"What do cookies have to do with anything?!"
Cheng Xiaoshi gasped. "It has everything to do with everything! I'll climb up six thousand flights of stairs - while you rest your pretty little head - and I don't even get a celebratory 'you did it' cake."
Lu Guang frowned. "We cannot afford sweets. And Qiao Ling's the only one who can bake-"
"The landlord? In our kitchen? Now who has bad memory? Did you forget what happened last time?"
They both shuddered.
