But each sport had its downsides. Eddie liked his teammates but after track events they tended to go hang out with their families or their friends. Eddie could never invite his mother to track events, let alone tell her he’s on the track team. He only got on because the coach really really wanted him to and made an exception for him not to have parental permission. The downside for volleyball was a player on a rival team.

Ever since childhood Eddie’s been pretending. When at sleepovers with the other losers, and Bill and Stanley would whisper the names of the boys they liked under the small blanket fort they made, set up in the Tozier’s living room, Eddie would pretend. She’d pick out a boy from their class that she thought she should like. And from then on she never really stopped pretending. Richie faked too, but at least she knew when to call it quits. The second she waved goodbye to the “Welcome to Derry” sign, she dropped the charade. She didn’t have to pretend anymore, Eddie didn’t get that memo. So tightly wound up into a ball of repression Richie sometimes wondered if she’d ever be able to uncoil her entirely.

Summary
Thanks to the bizarre-o alien clown magic shit or whatever, Eddie’s memory isn’t exactly stellar. But in the last month he thinks he’s recovered enough lost childhood traumas, as well as sweet nostalgic moments, to say with certainty that Richie was never this fucking clingy.
Richie's memory is a little better. Enough to be sure that he's been fighting the urge to stick to pretty little Eddie like a starved tic ever since the boy scotch taped his snapped crayons back together in Kindergarten.

There were many reasons Richie had wished he was an Alpha. For one thing, finding out he couldn’t mate-bond with the boy he had been in love with since Kindergarten was crushing, to say the least. He had planned on keeping his feelings suppressed, knowing that most Omegas ended with Alphas, leaving Betas to just kind of settle for each other. There were only ever a few rare instances in which a Beta could end up without another Beta -- and it was usually with an Alpha, like Ben and Beverly.
Right now, though… right now Richie craved the rage, the powerful possessive dynamic that would send an Alpha into a frenzy. He had seen it in Beverly before, the only Alpha of their pack. Partially, he wanted it to fuel him and use it to fuck up the Bowers’ pack royally. A more depressing thought was that, despite how deeply enraged and sickened Richie was feeling by this, he felt his Beta emotions could not match the heinous thing done to his best friend.
His hatred and sickness just didn’t feel like enough.
