Clive and Joshua share an apartment together and struggle through their lives in the aftermath of their mother's suicide a year earlier. Once extremely close, Joshua has worryingly withdrawn from Clive and is clearly teetering on the edge of self-destruction. Meanwhile, Clive tries to help them make ends meet by moonlighting as a boudoir model.
Their lives are about to change dramatically thanks to the sudden cancellation of Clive's usual photographer, who is replaced by the mysterious and alluring Cidolfus Telamon.

Want it to hurt when I take you?” Cid’s chuckle is a deep rumble of thunder in his chest. “No, I don’t think so. I think I want to be nice to your pretty hole tonight.”

While trying to ferret out a Branded black market trading ring, Cid runs into an old acquaintance from his days in Waloed. Cid needs to be reminded that he has overcome his past - that he may have been one with the enemy once, but now he is good and loved and working towards a better future. He calls on an earlier promise from Clive, who is all too eager to oblige and easily slips into his persona as 'Wyvern', ready for whatever the 'Lord Commander' has in store for him.

Isabelle leans across the table and places a hand on his lightly. "All I mean to say, Cid, is you're in a rut, and I know you too well to think you're happy there," she says, a hint of apology in her tone. "If you meet my new friend and you're not interested, fine, but at least meet him."
Cid turns his hand over under hers, simultaneously comforted and annoyed by how well she knows him. "I make no promises," he grumbles. "Who is he, then?"
Cid Telamon, at one time a big name in the Valisthean kink scene, has kept to the sidelines since going through a bad breakup. Clive Rosfield, a new face in the scene, is a very good reason to get back in the game—and a temptation to reconsider things Cid thought he was done with.

“Now—hey!” Cid barks as Clive drops him onto the bed, twisting to scowl at him with those lovely, verdant-green eyes. “What’s this abou—”
Clive cuts him off with a deep, biting kiss. As expected, Cid whines against his mouth and softens, parting his delicately sweet lips to give him access.

Or, running into a familiar face from the future-past sparks Clive's jealousy toward his younger lover. Fortunately, Cid is receptive to it.
