Summary
Soon after the television confrontation with Kira, Kuri is contacted on the phone by L. He tells her who he is, and reminds her of the Sendai Hill Kidnapping and the Spiral Incident. She realizes why he has selected her, because, for whatever reason, she cannot be killed. She refuses, stating she wants to protect herself, but she is really doing it to protect L, as she is almost certain that Light Yagami, a rival from a neighboring school, and common cram school, has something to do with Kira. L changes tactics and asks her to meet him at a crepe stand. Caught off guard, as from his tone, he seems to be genuinely asking her out, she accepts, unsure of her feelings.

L had to admit, when he’d clamped the cuffs around his and Light’s wrists he’d had an ulterior motive.
Light was Kira. L was sure of it.
He was also fairly certain that he was not Kira anymore, that whatever ability or memory he’d had as Kira in the past had somehow been erased and he was no longer truly much of a danger to anyone. He was genuine in wanting to help.
Still, L did like the security of having him in his sights at all times just to make absolutely sure he wouldn’t try anything.
It also meant he got to sleep in the same bed as him.
Jesus, Misa was right. He really was a pervert.
It was just that Light was so ruggedly handsome and… sweet.
