Ravio has never gone ice skating before, and Link doesn’t bother to hide his groan at this revelation. “Now you’ve done it,” his grumbles are ignored by both parties in the room as Zelda surges out of her seat, eyes glinting in excitement.
“Would you like to learn?”
“That would be nice,” Ravio answers. “But only if Mister Hero comes.” The merchant’s voice reminds Link of honey and smoke; thick and sweet, familiar as the apple orchids recovering on the side of his house.
He looks away, trying to fight the blush off his face. His sister giggles, and he kicks her under the seat.

Summary
At twelve years old, the Hero of Legend nearly dies inside the palace of the Four Sword. Worlds away, the Hero of Lorule is saved by the ghost of a shadow. Opposites and equals in every way, the two boys are haunted by the Hero of Light’s legacy.
Life goes on, through love and war and the machinations of gods.
Shadow never expected to wake up again after shattering the Dark Mirror. Without the Hero he was created to follow, what’s the point of him? It’s a brave new world, and Shadow has no choice but to change with it, blissfully unaware of the Four Sword resting just below his feet.

The storm blurred the sound, the endless rush of rain smothering their words, but the cadence carried clearly enough. The voices trailed along the side of the house… then stopped. At their door.
Ravio’s stomach dropped. He turned, and Link was already staring at him, both of them pale in the lamp light, eyes wide with the same thought.
“Shit,” Ravio breathed.
“Shit,” Link echoed.
