    He swallowed, and Gamora wondered if she had ever seen him so vulnerable. Not for a long time, not since he had first come to Sanctuary, before he had been hardened. Just like her and Nebula had been. They had all been forged in the same flames, hadn’t they?

    “Please, Sister?”

    She looked at him, silent and trying to hide the fidgeting of his hands behind his back, and caught his eye, watching as he held his breath. She recalled what Drax had said: Family. She wanted hers whole.

    And then Gamora smiled softly at her brother, and gestured up the gangplank. “Welcome aboard, Loki.”

    What if Loki had never been sent to Earth by Thanos? What if he stayed on Sanctuary for years, spending time with Gamora and Nebula and others of the Black order until 2014, when he was sent with the sisters to aid Ronan in his quest? What if, soon after, Loki joined the Guardians of the Galaxy?

    I just wanted to write a fic where Loki Nebula and Gamora bond and become siblings, and Loki joins the GotG for wacky space hijinks, okay?

During the ensuing fight, a magical artifact gets broken that wipes out Thor's memory of the past 300 years. Confused and disoriented, Thor battles the arriving Avengers and threatens to slaughter innocent mortals to the dozens as well. But Loki, afraid of alerting Heimdall to what was happening, persuades Thor to go with the Avengers peacefully. Thor agrees, but he naturally assumes that Loki would be part of the group as well, because -of course- Loki would always follow where Thor went, right?

    So now the Avengers and Loki are stuck pretending Loki is also part of the group until Thor’s memories return. A totally simple plan with zero chance of anything going wrong. Really. Well, at least that's what Loki's trying to tell himself.
