Summary
Beating the evil fox spirit was a feat that would take many nightmares and panic attacks before Stiles ever slept properly again. Add into his new relationship with Malia, the stress may be getting to him. Stiles' only way to feel safe is to keep working, and going over things he'd already gone over. Most of his memory is intact it would seem, but the fox spirit must have left something in the dark--he must have done something because Stiles cannot remember a factor in the Hale House fire.
That factor was Derek Hale, one of the only survivors from the fire--being that he wasn't actually in it but had the torturous luck to watch it. Problem is, Stiles cannot remember him--cannot even see him. At least not always. When Stiles is so tired he goes to sleep, he's refreshed enough to seek Derek for a time. Usually at midnight, since that's when Stiles wakes up from his nightmare. There isn't much Derek can do, hell they don't have much of a relationship between themselves besides the occasional need to screw someone that Derek has. So why is Stiles remembering him so important?

This is the reason minds are supposed to get mushy as we get older, Bucky thinks. Memories are supposed to fade, go fuzzy around the edges, reshape themselves to a smile, just a flash of white against pink and a burst of blue. Memories aren’t supposed to be like photographs. They’re not supposed to be stark and clear and detached. A summer day is supposed to swim in hazy gold. It’s supposed to feel sticky with heat, and taste like tart lemonade that you think you remember seeing a fly fall into. Skinned knees and tripped over laces that remain untied. A feeling with a few details that stick. That’s what a memory is.
Bucky doesn’t remember like that.
