“i am awake.” the bird muttered, leaning against the fabric of the couch more, as if he was trying to curl up into a space, a space where nothing was left of him. he finally opened his eyes, cocking his head to look up at blitzø.
he seemed surprised, he wasn't too sure how to respond, before smiling at the owl. his tail swaying faster than before. “good morning, stols. are you hungry?”
the owl averted his gaze from the imp, the way he looked at him. oh how he’d beg for that a month ago, how much he’d want to see blitzø look at him the way he's looking at him right now.
but he doesn't feel anything.

“Come on, Stols. Can you please hurry up and get ready? You said you were excited.” Blitzø whined, staring down at Stolas over the back of the couch as Stolas glared daggers back up at him.
Stolas knew that he should feel sorry, maybe even a little embarrassed. Blitzø had asked him to be ready when he got back from work so they could go do something “special” and “just for them”, and he had been excited.
The problem was that he had let himself get too excited, and as the day went on that excitement eventually turned to guilt as it usually did, and then he started to hate the person who was staring back at him every time he looked in the mirror and “getting ready” suddenly became an impossible feat.

He'd imagined that leaving Stella would be different than this, that his daughter would eventually get to leave home, have her own palace that he'd have customarily built to her liking, maybe settled down with a nice person (or not - Octavia never really seemed interested in that sort of thing) and she would be happy. Then, only once he knew that she was safe and happy, he'd divorce Stella, and be able to pursue a certain imp who had a silent 'o' at the end of his name. He'd get to move into Stolas' palace, they'd put up new pictures, and they'd make it their own, washing away all of the unhappy memories that had taken place in the confines of the building. Or, if things happened sooner rather than later, Stella would leave, Blitz and Loona would move in, and they'd all live as one big family.
But no. Things like that only happen in fiction.

Summary: Stolas wakes a few hours after the trial, wrapped up on Blitz’s couch, wondering what he was doing there. Blitz had made the choice to discontinue their association and yet here he was. He begins to fear that he may have inadvertently roped Blitz into another situation where he feels beholden to him. This causes a downward spiral of hurtful thoughts and Stolas wanting to leave. Luckily Blitz is a little more ready to have a heartfelt conversation with Stolas and explain to him just how wrong he is.
