It's incredible how fast things can change from one day to another.
Amusing, I'd even say, if the sorrow burning my heart wasn't as piercing as a knife.
His eyes, once so full of joy and happiness, always lost in books and words, now held a void of dread. I couldn't look at him with the same love I once did.
"I didn't do it."
Should I believe him? What does the truth mean, after all, if there isn't a lie to prove the difference between them? His tone sounded emotionless. Or maybe that's just how my mind was picturing him.
"Lirio, I promise I didn't harm anyone."
Promises. Another word I always held dearly next to my heart. So meaningful, yet so, so fragile if put under the right pressure. Even the strongest of bonds can break if they aren't firm enough to bear the sharping edge of society's expectations.
A part of my heart still believes his words. Is still hopeful that he isn't lying, that the Kardim I know would never hurt anybody, that my Kardim couldn't even bear the thought of causing pain to other people because of his actions.
