"I love you so much" Adora had whispered in her ear, their pink lips brushing against her skin as they did so, sending a shiver down her spine.
She wanted to answer, but her lover silenced her.
"Don't say anything yet, save it for the day I return to you, my queen" they had told her, kissing her cheek gently before getting on their steed and leaving with the troops, far, far away from her.
That would be the last time she would see her king.

Adora quickly looked up and for the first time in their life, the world isn’t falling around them, their mistakes aren’t weighing down, and their bones and muscles aren’t aching from the labor they’ve endured for the past few years. Summary
Another alien species lands on Etheria. The squad leave to go check it out, but are immediately met with a hostile greeting. Adora tries to talk them down, but they recognize them as She-ra and attack, blaming them and their people for the state of their world. A fight breaks out, eventually ending in an explosion. (Beginning of story set immediately after). Adora feels responsible even though she did not directly cause the problems. It’s mostly fluff despite my effort to make it sound like it has more plot.
Adora is nonbinary (She/They). She-ra has two forms, the usual and then a beast form which acts pretty much like a werewolf. She-ra also has more limits to her healing abilities and such and not indestructible.

Summary
The woods outside of the village of Cheddar are deathly silent; the songs of crickets and owls absent, driven away by the stench of death and evil that permeates every inch of the quaint English hamlet.
Grass and foliage cracks under the foot of a stranger as they emerge from the forest; their crimson coat, coal black suit, and bone white gloves cut the moonlit night like a bloodied obsidian blade glinting in the darkness.
They raise their face to the sky as a dark cloud briefly passes across the waxing moon, the dappled light reflecting off the orange tinted sunglasses hidden under their large brimmed hat.
Far in the distance, in the center of town visible from the hill the stranger stands, the crack of machine gun fire and the terrorized wails of dying men shatters the silence.
The stranger’s fangs glean in the light as a smile creases their lips.
“What a marvelous night,” they say as a shiver of anticipation rattles their voice. “The sort of night that makes me want to go for a bite to drink.”
The stranger leisurely strolls onward to the town shrouded in death and fear. Humming a light tune as they march onward into Hell.

Adora is someone who always manages to anticipate and exceed the expectations placed on her. It is second nature to her at this point. And that is what brought her to where she is today; in her last year of law school and engaged to the love of her life, Duncan. Everything is perfect, and yet Adora never stops feeling like something isn't quite right. She feels that she should be doing something different, something better.
This feeling is highlighted by the reunion with her estranged best friend, Catra. Catra has changed a lot since they last spoke and being around her makes Adora feel both happy and uneasy.
This is the story of Adora discovering her sexuality and questioning her gender later in life.
