“What do you want?” He asks when she’s a few feet away.
Pomni nervously pulls at her gloves, “Oh I uh. I just didn’t want you to be alone in the woods?” She offers.
Jax looks at her for a long moment before tsking and rolling his eyes, turning so that he’s standing sidewise in the path, and Pomni can see the slit that exposes his upper thigh. The hare catches onto her eyes locking onto the detail in the cloth, and feels something coil in his lower gut at the look in her eyes. She blinks and it’s gone. Shame. Wait, no it’s not. He sighs, “Fine, whatever. But we’re not doing whatever Caine cooked up for this, I’m not participating in this.” Jax huffs and crosses his arms.
“Okay then...so...what do you want to do?” Pomni asks, stepping a little closer. She positions herself to stand in front of him, looking up at his face framed by the brim of the hat atop his head.

Summary
Basically Jax is going through a hard time. Ribbit was Jax's older brother, and Ribbit was abusive in private to Jax. Ribbit ruined Jax's self esteem and helped shape Jax into an asshole. Everyone blames Jax for Ribbit's abstraction, because towards the end, Jax started lashing out at Ribbit. Jax knows Ribbit was an asshole, but like most abusers, Ribbit didn't show that side to everyone, acting like a kind and normal person.
This is set in episode 6, and then deviates from canon. Jax is freaking out when he realizes he actually enjoys being close to Pomni, and doesn't want to kill her like everyone else.

Jax screwed up - badly. He just wanted to avoid getting hurt - no attachment, no suffering, right? Wrong, because it was too late to burn that bridge already. Seeing her so drained of energy, her usual panic attacks changed into silent spacing out have provoked a sense of guilt he had never felt before. As if he were responsible for a death, but she's still alive. Yet.Meanwhile, Pomni discovers something that at first she took as Ragatha only misremembering what Kinger did during that stupid shooting game... turns out that there's more to the digital realm than what Caine lets them know.

Jax is an absolute menace to society. Not only did he create enemies in real life, but he even has a horde of detractors online! Jax is an online influencer who is also learning the trade of hacking through his friend, Ribbit. While Jax is well known, it doesn't mean that any publicity is good. Barely able to afford a low rent apartment, Jax is hopeful that he and Ribbit will soon hit the jackpot once both become proficient in the ways of hacking.
But then, a young woman named Ragatha has just moved into a unit down the hall from Jaxs'. Now, one would think that all Jax needs to do is just upkeep his malicious personality and push away this neighbor like he had with everyone else before her. However, her grating happy-go-lucky personality made it quite hard for his jabs to really hit home.
So, it just means he needs to up his game.
