Toodles stood before the elevator unable to move forward, as if some invisible barrier was stopping her. Part of her was still expecting her latest babysitter run up and pull her away, to tell her it’s dangerous she should let the adults handle it. She knew better though, the last group of toons went down 3 days ago and sometimes when toons go down they don’t come back up.
“Come on Toodles, be brave”
She stepped forward into the elevator.
Aka Toodles befriends all the Twisteds and somehow doesn't die because of pure luck.

"What?"
"Take him back, Toodles."The sound - or lack there of - that followed was suffocating, like the world had been swallowed whole by the void.
"We can't... that's not fair, not to him!" Toodles fired back as she watched Rodger turn away, returning to the creaking, groaning machine. His hands moved mechanically, as if each turn of the wheel was draining the life from him. "Please, please... if something goes wrong, let it be my fault!" she begged, but her words were swallowed by the cold, empty air. He didn't turn around, didn't even flinch.
"You can't— you can't leave me down here!" Glisten's chimed "I'm Glisten... the same Glisten, not one of those things!" The words dripped from his mouth like poison, each one burning as it escaped his throat. "I'm not as... fabulous as before, but—" His laugh was a tired, bitter thing, more like a dying gasp. "I'm still the same!"

Either way Shrimpo will never, ever, admit it, to anyone, but he gets light headed as hell in elevators. Maybe it’s motion sickness? He’s honestly not sure. No matter what he hates these goddamn death traps more than he hates his pathetic nightmares and he hates those. Shrimpo at least wishes he brought a book or even a pair of shades, but then he would’ve had to deal with questions.He hates questions.

Boxten (Thank Delilah, although he might give the Box the cold shoulder for the foreseeable future for dragging him into this hellhole (Yelling at Boxten is a bit too much even for him, Boxten can cry on command.) He’s too lightheaded to do so anyways)Astro (A quiet one, thank Arthur. He doesn’t know him or anything (he’s lying to himself, but having friends is such a foreign concept) but he’s alright to have naps near. (Shrimpo doesn’t have to worry about a ‘prank’ while he’s sleeping, which is nice at least.) He also reluctantly appreciates when Astro spends time with Shrimpo during his nightmares.)

You’d think they’d get tired of it, or at least realize that Astro looks like he’s going to burst into tears as he looks at his ‘best friends’ tearing into each other.

He’s going to kill them.Shrimpo should not be the emotionally mature, responsible, one out of all of the toons present. It's an exhausting and bewildering experience.
He rolls his eyes before managing to catch Astro’s eyes (eye? He’s still not sure), asking the older toon a silent ‘you good?’ with an eyebrow raised.
Based on Astro expression crunching up, he’s going to take that as a big fat ‘no’.
Shrimpo sighs and reluctantly gestures to him to come over. Astro hesitates for a moment before slowly making his way over, slight relief in his expression.
“C’mere. Take a nap, I’ll wake you up when those loudmouths are done.” Shrimpo’s a bit selfish (Shellfish, double pun, hah. Shut up mental Finn) in his offer, Astro coat, in his experience, is wonderful to rest against and Astro himself has a nice relaxing presence and his head is begging for any sort of relief.
It’s just an added benefit in the way Astro smiles when he sits next to him.

The toons descend deeper and deeper in the elevator, each floor harder than the last. Will they make it to floor 50?
(In this AU fic, all the toons are in the elevator (dandy is still the shop person though), there are 50 floors total, there are no boost items (dandy sells food, water, blankets, medicine, etc), the toons all have backpacks, nd if a toon dies they turn into a twisted immediately and has a chance to appear on higher floors. Each chapter (with two exceptions) covers the intermission before the floor, and the floor itself. Yah :D-
