Elena's a badass, and you're one of the few writers that can actually show that. Your Kadaj, brief though his appearance was, covneyed more menace and villainy than AC did. But your real talent was in your Tseng. His protectiveness of his Turks has always been his best trait. He's basically the big, stoic mama bird and tries to play himself off as an emotionless killer, and you encapsulate that brilliantly. "Control is [his] craziness" has to be the single best summary of Tseng I've ever heard.
Tseng naming Elena his successor actually makes a lot of sense, and I'm kind of surprised that it never once occurred to me, although it should have.
The ending in particular is a nice touch. Elena watching over the "ended" world, Reeve in particular... I like it. I like it a lot. Fantastic effort all around. Great piece.

After reading this, that shot of Elena with the Turks in AC just went POOF. Too neat, too controlled, too cute. The woman is a Turk. To fit in, to do the job, she HAS to have some crazy in her. Veld knew how to bring it out, nurture it; and he taught Tseng how to do it, too, or Tseng had the natural talent for it and Veld guided him. Reading this, she stopped being a cute, two-dimensional character in my mind, and became a living, breathing human being.
I wonder if the beauty and the truth and the horror of the Turks is that their "cracks", their broken bits, pain, trauma, loss, whatever makes up their nightmares and their sorrows, has been shaped and molded into the predatory, deadly creatures they are. There isn't one of them that doesn't have something ugly in their psyche, something bent - and for each of them, it's been used by one chief after another to turn them into a cohesive unit, something that's more than the sum of its parts.
I never would have thought of Elena as Tseng's successor. I always assumed it would be Reno. I'd love to know your thoughts on why you think it wouldn't be Reno. And I wonder if Tseng let Elena rampage her way along like this, getting her back on the rails before it went just that little bit too far, because it was his way of firing her in the kiln, so to speak. It wasn't his fault that shit happened with the Remnants, but he's not above using it to refine her into the successor that he needs her to be.
Oh, and I absolutely LOVE this line: “But it would be good if you intervened before I go really bananas.”
Perfection.

Cloud and Genesis meet because they share an unhealthy coping mechanism: they both fuck to cope. One night in a club turns into a relationship, turns incredibly awkward when Zack Fair and Angeal Hewley, their respective thought-to-be-dead exes, turn up. Any stability they manage to find is scrapped when Sephiroth claws his way back out of the Lifestream, and they have to try and make sense of things all over again.
I promise this will eventually be AGSZC, it's just gonna take a while to get there
