The situation suddenly feels absurd. Surreal. Made-up. Like there is an invisible string tugging from his limbs and tangling around his brain and manipulating what he thinks and what he says and what he does, a string that hides in plain sight and only operates in the fringes of awareness, vanishing as soon as one realizes the possibility of its existence.
The sensation passes as swiftly as it appeared, leaving him disoriented for a second, and he truly has to wonder now if the wackiness he has felt all evening is not just the unfamiliar heat and the foreign land and all his days at sea, if something about what he read on the reports—the dismantlement of the Akasha system, the tampered dreams, the failed god project—still lingers around Sumeru like a byproduct of that whole mess.
Before leading his entourage to a campaign in the Sumeru desert, Childe has to spend a night in Port Ormos, where he meets with old acquaintances and a mysterious man that immediately catches his attention. Inviting this stranger for a friendly duel, however, ends up turning into a much more interesting experience than he was anticipating.
Set post-Inversion of Genesis.

Wanderer flinched so hard he nearly fell out of the tree, catching himself at the last second, eyes wide as saucers. He would never admit to the scream that nearly came out of his mouth.
Scrambling his way back up, he raised his head in disbelief. Sitting on the branch right next to him was a young man, seemingly around his late twenties, wearing a black turtleneck and a light colored haori. But what caught his attention almost immediately were a red streak of hair sticking unruly from under a blue bandana and a pair of brown, bright eyes shining with warmth.
He knew those eyes.

As a protected pathstrider of the Preservation and a child blessed by Gaiathra Triclops, the combined link is enough to gently guide their dreaming soul away to a safe haven of one who’s dominion is over dreams and innocence. The memoria left to form his body in this new land after entering the rift from Penacony’s Dreamscape is not enough to form his true shape, but enough to form something familiar. At the very least, he’s not the only one stuck there as he later finds a certain “mute” wandering around.

Scaramouche busies himself with whatever Nahida suggests, begrudgingly befriends some Sumeru students and tries to pretend he has a place in this world. He has to.
If he doesn’t, all this will have been for nothing. And the idea of having lost Childe for nothing is unbearable, in a way he had never bothered to think about before.
“You’ll miss me,” Childe had said ages ago, before Scaramouche left for an assignment. “You’ll never admit it, but you will.”
He sounded hopeful. Scaramouche hadn’t bothered with an answer.
It’s a shame Childe will never remember he was right.
