Jiang Cheng seethes, gripping the bridge of his nose. “I don’t know how to help you,” he admits, “so I’m sending you to the people that do.”
It nearly slips out then, the truth of the matter. Wei Wuxian opens his mouth to snap back ‘There’s no helping me, not now!’ but the words stick in his throat. Shijie is crying and Jiang Cheng is defiant and Lan Zhan is staring at him so earnestly that Wei Wuxian simply doesn’t know how to tell them all that he’s living on borrowed time.

"I'll get to the point, Sect Leader Jiang. Pardon my question, but.. has the Lanling Jin done anything suspicious?" Jiang Wanyin merely looked at Wen Qing, confused.
"Of course not. Why would they? They would never dare act suspiciously to the public." Jiang Wanyin sharply replied, crossing both his arms together. Wen Qing sighed once again somberly, a worried expression on her face that even made Jiang Wanyin uneasy.
"What is it that Lady Wen really need?" Jiang Wanyin demanded. Wen Qing stared at the young sect leader, as if contemplating, before answering in a worried tone. "Wei Wuxian surrendered and... I don't know what kind of thing have the Jins already done. Pardon me, Sect Leader Jiang. I just thought that Sect Leader Jin would've surely announced this."

Jiang Cheng, carrying Jin Ling in his arms, was shouting at the disciples who were fixing some last minute preparations for the discussion conference they were hosting. He moved from place to place, ensuring that everyone wasn’t slacking off and that everything would be acceptable for the other sect leaders, especially for Sect Leader Yao, who loved to complain about the most minor problems.
While he ordered his disciples around, Jin Ling spotted his hair ribbon and grabbed it, causing Jiang Cheng’s head to rear back and free his hair from the tight bun he normally wore it in.
The ensuing scene looked like it was out of a story, his disciples would later claim.

Summary
The Sunshot Campaign had been a long and damaging war and many of the regions had been burned and left in a state of unrest. An older Lan Wangji has been traveling along the countryside and aiding those in need, when he finds a small village east of Yiling that is plagued by a strange, resentful energy.
The waters are tainted and the lake's depths unfriendly to any cultivators that try to cleanse them. Lan Wangji is adamant in his goal of aiding the townspeople, as well as appeasing the mysterious, injured Jiaoren that he finds.
