Dustin didn’t notice. “It means, Steve, that we could be heroes. True, American heroes. Just imagine,” he starts, and now Steve was intrigued, scooting closer as Dustin painted the picture for him. “You could have all the ladies you want. And more.”
“More?” Steve considers it and decides that this is something he could get behind. He hadn’t realized when he’d started staring off into the distance like some fantasizing schoolgirl, and when that distance had just become Eddie Munson while he gave some teenager their soft serve. The guy was unashamedly staring, not even giving the teen his full attention. How unprofessional, he thought, like slinging ice cream was a job to take pride in. Eddie looked at him like he was a bug under a microscope, and Steve felt trapped under it. Dustin nods and Steve turns back to him. More. “I like more. What’s the catch?”

It doesn’t help that Eddie seems to hate his guts. Or maybe he just doesn’t care enough to give Steve the time of day, or maybe he thinks Steve doesn’t care enough to give him the time of day. Which might have been true a year ago, but it’s April of ‘85, graduation is a few months away, and Steve has gone through at least three near-death experiences with an alternate dimension at this point, so sue him for thinking this isn’t as out of his depth as Eddie must think it is.
If he can fight monsters, he can seduce Eddie Munson.
Or, at the very least, get his attention.
