    She smiled, the same kind smile that Link had remembered so well, and had longed to see again, even if just once.

    Mipha was back, not a dream, or a hallucination, or stuck in spirit form. She was alive again.

    Link took a deep breath, willing himself to speak. He hadn’t spoken out loud to anyone in a long time, but this was too significant for body language or Zora Sign Language. Mipha deserved to hear his voice again, just as he got to hear hers.

    “Mipha…” Link’s voice came out low, raspy, and barely above a whisper, after years of practiced silence. “Hello, my love…”

    Mipha froze, wondering if she was imagining things. “…Link, did you…”

    “I did,” Link said firmly. “And… I’m so sorry… I never told you I loved you too. I was oblivious to your feelings and bound to my duty for so long. I couldn’t be there for you when you needed it the most. I couldn’t protect you. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

    He hugged her tighter, unwilling to let go. He wasn’t ready to let go. He had never been.

Her father's expectations (and that of the kingdom which he carried on his tongue) bore impossibly hard on her. Not to mention that sickly feeling bubbling up her throat when she looked in the mirror...

    Link wished the King would be softer on the Princess. It would make his life much easier, although since he became harsher, coincidentally, Link made a new friend. So, all in all, it might have been worth it.
